Multi-layer FPC

Multi-layer FPC is to laminate three or more layers of single-sided flexible circuits or double-sided flexible circuits together, and form metallized holes through drilling and electroplating to form conductive paths between different layers. In this way, no complicated welding process is required. Multilayer flexible circuits have huge functional differences in terms of higher reliability, better thermal conductivity, and easier assembly performance.


Multilayer flexible circuit boards have the characteristics of thin thickness, bendability, high wiring density, light weight, and high flexibility. Multilayer flexible circuits are mainly used in mobile phones, computers, digital cameras, household appliances, communications, new energy vehicles and aerospace, etc. in multiple products.

3 layers flex PCB Specification:3 layer, PI (50/25, adhesiveless), 0.3mm thickness, Outer ED Copper 1oz, Inner ED Copper 0.5oz, Both Sides Yellow Coverlay, White Silkscreen, ENIG.


This is 6 layers flexible circuit with FR4 stiffener stackup. The Hole Wall Copper thickness is 15-20um. Customer wants to make the multilayer flex circuit, he chose the FR4 material as the stiffener.

1. Finished flexible insulating substrate

This category is manufactured on a flexible insulating substrate and the finished product is specified to be flexible. This structure usually bonds the two sides of many single-sided or double-sided microstrip flexible PCBs together, but its central part is not bonded together, so it is highly flexible. In order to have a high degree of flexibility, a thin, suitable coating such as polyimide can be used on the conductor layer instead of a thicker laminate cover.

2. Finished flexible insulating base material


This category is manufactured on a flexible insulating substrate and the finished product is specified to be flexible. This type of multi-layer FPC is made of soft insulating materials, such as polyimide film, laminated into a multi-layer board, which loses its inherent flexibility after lamination.

5. Design flexibility. Inductance, capacitance, characteristic impedance, etc. will affect the transmission of the product. This multi-layer core board lamination method uses conventionally produced high-density impedance boards or FPC boards with leading edge density as the "core board".
